Fern Clang

Fern Elizabeth Hutchins Clang, age 91, Carthage, passed away at 10:05 p.m. Sunday, March 6, 2016 at her home after an illness.

Fern was born July 6, 1924 in Miller, Missouri to the late Sidney Smith Hutchins and Maude Grider Hutchins and had lived in the Carthage area most of her life.

Fern worked as an executive secretary for the Area Agency on Aging, retiring in 1984. She had also taught Sunday School and sang in the choir at the First Church of the Nazarene in Carthage for many years. She was part of a trio and quartet group that performed at area functions. Fern was a charter member of The Sheep Shed. She was a very special lady who enjoyed needlework, crocheting, quilting and cooking. She loved her family and her church with all her heart and will be missed by all that knew her.

Fern married Clarence Everett Clang on January 5, 1942 in Monett. They were married 62 years before he passed away on August 17, 2004.

She was also preceded in death by five brothers; one sister and a great grandson, Andrew Snider in 2008.

Survivors inlcude a son, Gary Clang and his wife, Carol, Carthage; a daughter, Anita Ames and her husband, Sidney, Carthage; grandchildren, Sheri Noland, Andrew Hood, Kristi Smith, Michele Snider; numerous great grandchildren and numerous great great grandchildren.

Graveside services are planned for Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Greenfield City Cemetery, Greenfield, Missouri. Steve Smith will officiate. Pallbearers will be George Snider, Andrew Hood, Steve Smith, Sidney Ames, Gary Clang and Kenny Arnold. The family will receive friends Thursday from 7-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
