(From Parker Mortuary)Our father, Guy L. Benson left this world on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the age of 81 and will be sadly missed. He was the son of the late Ervin and Sylvia (Dunn) Benson and was born on January 17, 1941 in Joplin.
Dad was a graduate of Joplin Senior High School and later earned his Business Administration degree at Missouri Southern State College. We are proud to acknowledge that he honorably served his country in the United States Army having been stationed in Germany for a time during his service.
On February 28, 1964 our dad was united in marriage to Treba Severs, our beautiful mother in Joplin. She preceded him in death in March 2018.
Anyone who knew our dad knew what joy he received by spending time with all of his family. He was a devoted father, husband, son, brother and grandpa and also enjoyed camping, road trips to explore new places, playing with his grandchildren and venturing to local car shows. Our Dad was always fascinated with classic cars and hot rods and savored the opportunity to tell others about his childhood, teenage memories and youthful adventures.
Survivors include his children, Dawn Welch (Doug), of Neosho, Eric Benson (Drew Coppinger), of Ozark, and Gary Benson (Aaron Thomas), of Joplin; grandchildren, Mariah Welch, of Joplin, Denver Welch, of Neosho, and Cait Stewart, of Carl Junction; one great grandchild, Ezra Stewart, of Carl Junction; his sister, Carol Gardner (Kieth), of Joplin; and several extended family members.
