Larry Williams

Larry Dean Williams, age 77, Joplin, passed away at 9:05 p.m. Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at National Healthcare Center.

Larry was born December 28, 1939 in Stella, Missouri to the late Ralph Williams and Evelyn Fisher Williams and had lived in Joplin all of his life.

A 1958 graduate of Joplin High School, Larry excelled at football and continued his athletic and educational career at both Joplin Junior College and Pittsburg State College.

Larry worked in residential construction for many years and worked as a carpenter at the former St. John's Regional Medical Center for twenty five years, retiring in 2009.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Choir at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was currently a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. Larry was also a member of IBEW Local #95 and a proud veteran of the United States Army. He enjoyed traveling and hosted foreign exchange students for years.

Larry married Sandy Barlet on June 17, 1967 in Old Mines, Missouri. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include two sisters, Patsy Loyd, Joplin, Linda Starkweather and husband, Jerry, Joplin; one brother, Rowayne Williams and wife, Phyllis, Tulsa, Oklahoma; brother-in-law, Richard Barlet and wife, Pam, Carthage; four step brothers, Donnie Epperson and wife, Shirley, Marceline, Missouri, Max Epperson and wife, Betty, Abington, Illinois, Keith Epperson and wife, Shirley, Rothville, Missouri, Carl Epperson and wife, Carla, Sumner, Missouri; Cecilia Mazza, foreign exchange daughter from Uruguay, South America, now living in Vollsjo, Sweden and several other extended family members.

Services are planned for Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Webb City. Fr. Justin Monaghan will officiate. Interment will follow at Carterville Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Swalley, Shannon Johnson, Ronnie Lett, Brent Loyd, Jeff Starkweather, Mo Kitch, Lannie Staggs and Ken Shroer. The family will receive friends Monday from 6-8:00 p.m. at Parker Mortuary Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Mercy Hospice, in care of Parker Mortuary.
