Grant Lybarger

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Matthew (Grant) Lybarger, Age 60 of Joplin, MO passed away Thursday, Oct 05, 2023, unexpectedly on route to the hospital. Grant was born on Sept. 13, 1963 in Ft. Dodge, IA to the late Dan Lybarger and Vickie (Young) Lybarger.

Grant was a loving Son, Husband, Father and Grandfather, honorable serviceman and hard worker. Grant joined the Navy in 1982 after graduating high school, and served 4 years active duty and then 2 years of reserve service, making him the 3rd generation of the Lybarger lineage in military service.

Grant met April (Lingenfelter) in 1986. Their union produced 3 wonderful children. Adam, a successful project manager in utility work, Kady Mae, an up and coming teacher, and Carter a Forge workman and Homesteader. Grant was also a grandfather to 3 beautiful grandchildren, Lilly, Little Grant, and Rook.

After the reserves, Grant went to work at Leggett & Platt & Dyno Nobel, in Carthage having spent 20 years combined between the two. Grant has spent the last 22 years at Marmic Fire & Safety, starting in 2001 when it was Joplin Fire Protection. Grant was the hydo-test technician for Joplin, MO and was very knowledgeable and efficient in his craft.

In short, Grant was proud of the family that he had built and loved them with everything that he had. Grant was a devoted man of Faith, husband, father, grandfather and to say that he was good at all of these things would be an inadequate understatement to say the least. Grant was a staple in everyone’s world being a simple yet very intelligent and knowledgeable person. He came to his children’s rescue many times over, while simultaneously making some of their fondest memories of him. Grant was a man of honor, integrity, and loyalty but most of all, a family man. He will be deeply missed by all his family and his Marmic family.

Survivors include his wife April, his children, and his grandchildren; his Mother Vickie; his sister Lisa Bock and husband Dirk. He was preceded in death by his sister Julie Lybarger and also by his father Daniel Lybarger.

Funeral services have been scheduled at 2:00 pm Tuesday, Oct 10, 2023 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel, with visitation immediately following the service.
