Karen Palmer

Karen Kay (Scurto) Palmer, 80 of Syracuse, passed away at her home on October 10, 2023, surrounded by family. She was born on December 23, 1942, to Earl M. and Betty Jean Harris in Lamar, MO.

Karen was one of 4 children, Betty Ann, Larry, and Bobby. She married Jim Scurto Sr. on December 23, 1959, and together they had five children, Kenneth, Annette, Keith, Jim Jr. and Loretta. Jim and Karen operated Scurto’s Super Service in Syracuse. 








Karen also worked at the Good Samaritan Society Nursing Home and retired after 35 years. Other jobs she had included cleaning Harold’s Grocery Store, Syracuse Medical Center, and Town & Country Pharmacy for many years. Many years after Jim’s passing Karen met and married Ronald “Ron” Palmer and continued living in Syracuse.

She is survived by her children Kenneth (Roseanne) of Garland, Annette (Rick) Block of Unadilla, Keith (Gail) of Lincoln, Jim Jr. (Jennifer) of Waverly and Loretta (George) Teixeira of Syracuse; brother Bobby (Jennifer) Evans of Deepwater, MO; brother-in-law Donald Nichols of Jacksonville, NC; sisters-in-law Audrey Harris of Omaha, AR, Cecilia (Calvin) Kastens of Springfield. She is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other family and friends.

Karen is preceded in death by her parents, husbands Jim and Ron; sister Betty Ann; brother Larry; granddaughter Stephanie; and great grandson Asher.







Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, October 15 at 4:00 p.m. at Luther Memorial Lutheran Church in Syracuse. The service will be livestreamed on the Luther Memorial Church, NE YouTube page. Burial will be at the Park Hill Cemetery in Syracuse.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, October 14 from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home in Syracuse.

Karen has requested memorials go to the Luther Memorial Church or the Dialysis Center of Lincoln.
