Rodney Phinney

Rodney Daniel Phinney, 85, of Oronogo, Missouri, was born on September 14, 1938, in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, October 9, 2023, at McDonald County Living Center in Anderson, Missouri, after a recent decline in health. 

Rodney's life was marked by his selfless service, gentle demeanor, and faith-filled convictions, leaving an indelible imprint on the hearts of all who knew him.








Rodney was born into a large family of six children. He was preceded by his parents, Howard and Helen (Langner) Phinney, four brothers, Donald, Steve, Denis, and Stanley Phinney, and a sister, Nola Herring. Rodney is survived by his wife, Maradean Anne Phinney, along with two children, Daniel Phinney of Omaha, Nebraska, and Matthew Phinney of Olympia, Washington. He is also survived by three step-children, Marka Keddie and husband, Eric, of Ft. Smith, Arkansas, Marland Cox of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Maleia Cheney and husband, Chris, of Anderson, Missouri. His legacy further lives on through his six grandchildren, Kyler, Trey, Gannon, Marshall, Anna, and Kate; a sister, Judy Gratten of Valley Center, Kansas; and a host of other family and friends.

After spending his formative years in Topeka, Kansas, Rodney proudly served in the United States Air Force, demonstrating his love for his country. Rodney then resided in Omaha, Nebraska, and Independence, Kansas, before retiring to Oronogo, Missouri, in 2007. His career saw him retire on May 1, 2007 from Four County Mental Health as Building and Maintenance Supervisor, after being honored as Employee of the Year in 1999. Rodney was also an active member of Villa Heights Christian Church where he was involved in youth Sunday school, demonstrating his commitment to spiritual growth and community development.

Rodney had a passion for construction and woodworking projects, often seen building bird and doll houses. He had a knack for oil paintings and was fond of word searches and jigsaw puzzles. His attention to detail and his highly organized nature were evident in all his endeavors. These hobbies provided not just personal fulfillment, but also a means to connect with and his family and the community.








Throughout his life, Rodney was known for his selflessness, always putting the needs of others before his own. His gentle spirit and faith-filled life were a testament to his character, and he was a beacon of kindness and integrity in the lives of many. Rodney's memory will be cherished, and his legacy will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. His life was a testament to the power of love, service, and faith.

Memorial services will be held on Friday, October 27, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri with Brother Steve Bycroft officiating. The family will receive on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Memorials are being directed to Villa Heights Christian Church c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Ozark Funeral Home in Anderson, Missouri.
