Truman Brown

Truman Wayne Brown, 91, of Joplin, Missouri, a lifelong area resident, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, following a recent decline in health. Born on November 16, 1931, in Diamond, Missouri, to the late Raymond and Kathryn Brown, Truman was known for his gentle spirit, selfless nature, and thoughtful demeanor.

Truman was a graduate of Carterville High School's class of 1949. Following his education, he bravely served his country in the United States Army. 








After his service, Truman embarked on a long and successful career at Carthage Marble, where he diligently served for over thirty years before retiring in 1997.

Truman was a man of simple pleasures. He found joy in tending to his garden, playing poker with friends and family, and caring for his beloved dog, Baxter. His life was a testament to his character, a man who placed the needs of others before his own, a trait that endeared him to all.

Truman was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of fifty-seven years, Mary Ellen Brown on September 11, 2018; and two brothers, Carl and JD Brown. Truman leaves behind his two children, Linda Simon and her husband, Bill, of Nixa, Missouri, and Gary Alford and his wife, Debbie, of Carthage, Missouri. Three grandchildren, Angie Marn, Jeff Cloven, and Shane Alford. Truman was also a great-grandfather to eight and a great-great-grandfather to sixteen.







In his passing, Truman Wayne Brown leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication. His life was a testament to the power of kindness and the strength of the human spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Graveside services are 2:00 p.m. Monday, October 16, 2023 at Stone Cemetery near Diamond, Missouri, with Pastor Alan McCamey officiating. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Jeff Cloven, Shane Alford, Brandon Falls, Cade Alford, Javyn Marn and Laken Falls. The family will receive friends on Monday beginning at 12:30 at the funeral home chapel. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.
