Barbara Ann Carrender, age 71, of Joplin, passed away on Sunday June 26, 2016, at her home, after a long illness.
Barbara was born on May 17, 1945 in Kansas City, Mo., the daughter of the late Arthur Letzig, Jr. and Betty (Coomes) Letzig. She married Chuck Carrender on December 28, 1968 in Belton, Mo., together they raised one son.
She received her bachelor of Arts from Central Missouri State University. She then went on to receive two Master’s degrees one in literature and the second one was a Master’s of Library Science both from Central Missouri State University. While she was attending School she worked for Hallmark as their Head of Marketing. She has been a resident of Joplin for the past thirty years, moving her from Garden City, Ks. She worked for the Joplin School District for twenty-five years as a Elementary Librarian. She retired in 2010. She was a member of St. Paul’s United Methodist Church. She was a member of the A.D.K. Sorority and Missouri Librarian Association.
She is survived by her husband of forty-eight years, Chuck Carrender, Joplin; and one son Trent Carrender and his wife Desiree`, Fayetteville, Ar.
Funeral services will be Thursday June 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend Joe Crosthwait will officiate. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.
A second visitation will be Friday July 1, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the McGilley-George Funeral Home, 611 Chestnut, Belton, Mo. Burial will follow at the Belton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations to be made to the American Stroke Association in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
