Lt Col Mack L. Oldham, a resident of Freedom House, passed away on June 5, 2016. Mack was born on January 3, 1942 in Carthage, MO to parents Kaythryn and Mack Oldham. After growing up in Carthage, Mack attended Drury College in Springfield, MO and married his high school sweetheart JoAnn Jackson in 1963. Mack graduated with a BA in Sociology in 1965.
Mack was commissioned in the United States Air Force and completed pilot training at Craig Air Force Base, Alabama. He served in Vietnam and was stationed at Cam Ranh Air Base, flying C-7A Caribou. Following Vietnam, he flew KC-135 Tankers at Barksdale AFB. Mack also flew the RC-135 at Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan and the C-12 in Saudi Arabia. Lt Col Oldham served as Chief of Combat Evaluation Group for Strategic Air Command, Squadron Commander of the 91st Air Refueling Squadron, McConnell AFB, Kansas, Commander of Cobra Ball, Shemya, Alaska, and Director of Operations 340th Air Refueling Wing, Altus AFB, Oklahoma. After 22 year as a military pilot, Lt Col Oldham retired in 1988. After military retirement, Mack worked as instructor pilot for McDonald Douglas in the KC-10 program before beginning a 10 year career as a pilot and instructor pilot for Federal Express.
In 2003, Mack and JoAnn moved to Boerne, TX. Mack retired from FedEX in 2008. He enjoyed playing golf, fishing, and traveling. He was a volunteer with Kairos Prison Ministry and attended Cibolo Creek Community Church. Mack is survived by his wife of 53 years, JoAnn, one son, Jeffrey, and one grandson, Wesley, all residing in San Antonio, TX.
Visitation will be held Tuesday June 14, 2016 from 11:00 – 11:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Carthage with a memorial service following. Inurnment will be in Park Cemetery after the memorial service. Rev. James Lee will officiate. Memorial donations in Mack’s honor are suggested to Freedom House Charitable Foundation, 5100 John D.
