Betty D. Harshaw, 89, Carthage, Mo., passed away Saturday morning, June 11, 2016 at Carthage Health and Rehab, Carthage. Betty Doris Matthews was born June 26, 1926 in Arkansas to the late Arthur W. Matthews and Bessie Lee (Tacker) Blankenship. She was a graduate of Carthage High School, Class of 1944. She later became a member of the sorority Beta Sigma Phi. Betty worked as a secretary for the local newspaper. Betty married Jack Raymond Harshaw on August 21, 1954 in Carthage, Mo.; he preceded her in death on September 29, 2008. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage, Mo.
Survivors include a sister-in-law, Grace Blankenship, Carthage, Mo.; a niece, Beth Ann Woods, Pensacola, FL; nephews, Adam Blankenship, Carthage, Joel Blankenship, Carthage, Mike Crusa, AZ, Jerry Crusa, AZ, Bryan Blankenship, Lacombe, LA; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one brother, Don Blankenship, and one sister, Joy Crusa.
A graveside service will be held 2 p.m., Thursday, June 16, 2016 at Park Cemetery, Carthage. Minister Victor Knowles will officiate. Inurnment will follow the service.
