Clyde Murray

Clyde Wessley Murray, affectionately known as “Peck” passed away at Miami Nursing Center on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at 11:14 AM.

Clyde was born on December 27, 1921 in Ottawa County, OK to the union of Ira Hessel Murray and Anna Esther (Ewers) Murray. The family moved to Leadville, CO in search of work when Clyde was 15.

He served his country proudly in the US Army during the WWII Era. Clyde moved back to the area and worked as a chemical analyst for Farmer’s Chemical, now Potash Corp, until retiring in 1969. He was a lifetime member of the DAV of Commerce, OK, and a lifetime member of the Miami American Legion Post #147. He loved farming and spending time in the garage tinkering on cars and anything else he could find to work on.

Clyde was united in marriage with June Hixenbaugh in Picher, OK on November 6, 1955. She survives.

Additional survivors include five sons, Harold E. Murray (wife, Danielle) of Joplin, MO; Keith Murray of Joplin, Randy Murray of the home, Jason Murray (wife, Natalie) stationed with the US Air Force in Japan, and Paul Murray of Quapaw; as well as 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.

Clyde was preceded in death by his parents; one granddaughter, LaRachel Murray; one brother, James Murray; and three sisters, Lillie Brittle, Ruby Shallenburger, and Martha McWethy.

The funeral service will take place at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel in Baxter Springs, KS. Pastor Geoff Buffalo will officiate. Pallbearers will be Clyde’s five sons and a grandson, Lucas Murray.

Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 14, 2016 from 6-7:00 PM also at the funeral home.
