Ernie Thompson

Ernest "Skip" Robert Thompson, Jr., 85 of Carl Junction, Missouri, passed away peacefully Monday, June 20, 2016 at Foxberry Terrace in Webb City, Missouri.

Ernie was born May 18, 1931 in Paola, Kansas to the late Ernest R. Thompson, Sr. and Reba Sherman Thompson. He graduated high school from Boonville High 1949 serving as Vice President of his class, and then received his Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from University of Missouri in 1958. He proudly served his country from 1951-1953 in the United States Navy.

Ernie started his career as a Civil Engineer at the Los Angeles Dept. of Power and Water from 1958-1960. He then took a job at Borg-Warner Corp in Washington, West Virginia and Louisville, Kentucky from 1960-1969. He served as Application Development Engineer, Marketing Manager and Dept. Coordinator. From 1969-1971 Ernie worked for Cabot Piping System as Manager of Marketing and Sales. He then worked for W.S. Dickey Clay in Pittsburg, Kansas, serving as Vice President and Director of Marketing from 1971-1980. Ernie was founder and president of ETCO Specialty Products in Girard, Kansas from 1980-1999.

On February 21, 1953, Ernest married Mary Lavonne Cramer in San Diego, California. She preceded him in death on August 8, 2011. Additionally. a daughter, Angie Darlington and siblings, Richard Thompson and Mitzi Payne preceded Ernie in death.

Survivors include sons, Ernie Thompson of Parsons, Kansas, Mike Thompson of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Daniel Thompson of Carl Junction, Missouri; daughters, Nancy Thompson of Lee’s Summit, Missouri and Jenny Thompson of Girard, Kansas; sister, Maurine Rootes of Atlanta, Georgia; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Foxberry Terrace for their outstanding care over the past year. Also, thank you to Daniel Thompson, Ronda Sloan, and Kerri Sponsel for their tireless dedication and exceptional care.

A memorial service is planned for Friday, June 24 at 11:00 a.m. at Living Faith Church, Girard, Kansas with Rev. Dale Samuels officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either National Diabetes Foundation, A.L.S. or Future Hope Haiti.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
