Loren J. Webb, age 95, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 12, 2016, surrounded by family at his home.
Loren was born May 5, 1921 at family home in Barton County, second of the three sons of Ralph and Wanda (Stoltz) Webb. After graduating from Lamar High School in 1939, he joined the Missouri National Guard, serving in Texas, California and the Aleutian Islands during World War II. Completing his military duty and returning home in 1945, Loren worked for the City of Lamar, co-owned the Sinclair Station, worked for Horton Engineering, Lawn Boy, and O’Sullivan Industries. In 1963, while employed at Lawn Boy, Loren tapped into his electrical experience and entrepreneurial spirit, starting Webb Electric with little more than a 1950 Chevy Truck and his great work ethic. From it’s beginning days in his home shop to the Lamar square in the early 1980’s Webb Electric has served Barton County and beyond with integrity, honesty, and emphasis on customer service for more than 50 years. Loren was an active member of Lamar United Methodist Church.
On November 24, 1946, at Lamar, Loren married Shirley Ryan and they shared 43 years before her passing January 9, 1990. He was also preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Steve Collier; granddaughter-in-law, Susan Boss Webb; two brothers, Billy Joe and Charles Albert Webb; and Bob Potter, who he considered his brother.
Survivors include his son, Charles (Stacy) Webb and daughter, Luella (Gordie) Godfrey, all of Lamar; seven grandchildren, Matt Webb, Ryan Collier, Jeff (Ashley) Godfrey, Ryan (Leah) Godfrey, Ashley (Matt) Thieman, Gretchen Engelage, and Isaac Engelage; five great-grandchildren, Quintin Webb, Toby, Edie, & Sammy Godfrey and baby Bess on the way; former daughter-in-law, Tina Webb; and dear friend, Shorty Godfrey.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Daniel Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until service time Wednesday. Burial will be in Morehead Cemetery.
Memorial contributions are suggested to Lamar United Methodist Church Memorial Fund or Gideons International, in care of the funeral home.
