Evelyn Jones

Evelyn Claire Jones, Neosho, died June 13, 2016 at the age of 91 years. 

 Evelyn was born Nov. 9, 1924 in Little Rock, AR, the daughter of William F., Sr. and Mabel C. (Cook) Garner. She was a graduate of Little Rock Junior College, now the University of Arkansas at Little Rock and completed her junior year of college at Webster University in St. Louis. She taught kindergarten at the First Baptist Church in El Dorado, AR and later worked as a secretary at Brown Shoe in St. Louis, Missouri. 

 Evelyn married Thomas Allen Jones on October 27, 1944 at the First Methodist Church in Little Rock, Arkansas. Tom was serving at a LTJG in the U. S. Navy and was stationed in California and Evelyn was able to join him there. While in California, their daughter, Barbara was born in April, 1946. The family moved to Little Rock after the war in 1951 and then moved to El Dorado, Arkansas where Tom took a position with Lion Oil Company. In 1955, Lion Oil Company merged with Monsanto and the family moved to St. Louis in 1958. Following Tom’s retirement, they moved to Neosho in October, 1984. Evelyn enjoyed classical music and opera, travel, gardening, reading and entertaining friends. She enjoyed her friends at GAR, Chapter Jo-PEO and her church, the Neosho United Methodist Church. 

 Evelyn is preceded in death by her husband, Tom on October 8, 2000; her parents and an infant brother, William Franklin, Jr. She is survived by a daughter, Barbara C. McClanahan and husband, Don of St. Louis, Missouri. 
 
Services are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO.
