(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary)
The world lost a dearly loved soul, Jimmie Jones, on the evening of June 15, 2016. Jim passed away at home in Joplin surrounded by family. He was born February 23, 1947, in Wichita, KS, the son of Merle and Marietta Jones. He earned an architectural degree from the University of Arkansas, and was a decorated soldier in the Vietnam War (draft #57). As an architect, he was known for his commitment to honesty, ethics, and excellence. But his life was much more than work. He lived his life marked by a sense of humor, compassion, and adventure, exceeded only by his enormous love for his family and friends. Whether sailing, golfing, or hosting impromptu happy hours at home for friends, he embraced life. No one will forget his contagious grin and the twinkle in his eyes.
Those dedicated to carrying on the memory of Jimmie include his wife Veda, sons Landon, Morgan (Corrie), and Marshall (Abby), grandson Jagger, granddaughter Juliet, father Merle, brother Merle Dean (Elaine) and extended family and friends.
A memorial for Jim will be held at Club 1201, 1201 East 32nd Street, at 3:00 on Saturday, June 18. Interment of ashes will be at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia.
Jimmie’s loved ones request that you carry on his legacy of fun and compassion. Be kind to one another. Thank you, Jimmie, for the years of love and laughter.
Arrangements are under the care of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
