James Smith

James T. Smith II, age 73 of Galena passed away on June 13, 2016 at 1:45 AM at Landmark Hospital in Joplin, MO.

James was born on January 18, 1943 to the union of James T “Bud” Smith I and Bernice Iva (Windecker) Smith in St. Louis, MO. He graduated from Manchester High School with the class of 1958.

James enlisted in the US Air Force in 1961, completed basic training, and was later given a medical honorable discharge. He moved to Galena in 1968 and ran Smith's Remodeling and Construction before retiring in 2008.

He married Barbara May (Durbin) Smith in St. Louis County, MO on February 2, 1962. She preceded him in death on June 8, 1991.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, and one sister, Debbie Collins.

Survivors include two sons, James T. Smith III (wife, Carroll) of Carl Junction, MO, and Dennis L. Smith (wife, Shannon) of Jacksonville, SC; one daughter, Carla E. Wright (husband, David) of Galena; four brothers, Ray Smith (Wife, Juanita) of Galena, Mike Smith (wife, Karen) of Joplin, Jeff Smith of Joplin, and Clint Smith of Joplin; two sisters, Sue Montee of Alba, MO, and Joyce Mendenhall of Pryor, OK; as well as 6 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Smith has been entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home for cremation. There will be a private family burial of cremains at Oak Hill Cemetery at a later date. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
