Jerald Quarles

Jerold Quarles, 77, of Lamar, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning, June 21, 2016.

Jerold was born September 13, 1938 in Sheldon, Missouri, to the union of Lee Harris Quarles and Eunice Plain Quarles. He later resided in Iantha and Liberal, Missouri, graduating from Liberal High School in 1956. In 1961, Jerold joined the U.S. Army, serving his country faithfully until 1967. He also served in the Missouri National Guard. Mr. Quarles worked for O’Sullivan Industries in Lamar for 25 years. He also worked for Thorco Industries in Lamar and for his son, Terry, at Quarles Construction in Webb City. Jerold was a 9 year member of the Barton County Eagles 4405 in Lamar, serving as Trustee for 7 years. He was also a Mason and Shriner of Mirza Shrine, Pittsburg, Kansas.

On June 2, 1972, Jerold married Norma Duncan in Miami, Oklahoma, and together they shared 44 years.

Jerold was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Eunice Quarles; four brothers, Bob, Charles, Gene and Harold Dean Quarles; and one sister, Joyce Brown.

He is survived by his wife, Norma, of the home; son, Terry Quarles, and wife, Pamela, of Webb City; daughter, Mischele Callaghan, and husband, Michael, of Lamar; grandchildren, Kristin Quarles and fiancé, Casey Drummond, of Webb City, Jeffrey Carsel and wife, Laura, of Golden City, Austin Carsel and wife, Jamy, of Lamar, and Michael and Dustin Butcher, of Webb City; great-grandchildren, Sophie-Jo Quarles, of Webb City, Caitlyn and Remington Carsel, of Golden City, and Breanna and Cali Butcher, of Alba; and a host of extended family.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday evening, June 25, from 6:00 – 9:00 at the Eagles Lodge, 468 US-160, in Lamar. Private family burial with graveside military rites will take place in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Lamar. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, St. Louis.
