Tommy Joe Jaggars, age 66, of Lamar, Missouri, passed away Sunday, June 19, 2016, at Barton County Memorial Hospital following a long illness.
Tommy was born July 2, 1949, in Pryor, Oklahoma, to Jess and Maxine (Martin) Jaggars. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Chuck Jaggars.
On May 22, 1975, at Pryor, Tommy married Janie West, and she survives of the home. Also surviving are his children, Tina Carew, Joplin, Chris (Amy) Jaggars, Kansas City, Missouri, Niki (Scott) Tubbs, Claremore, Oklahoma, and Andrew Jaggars, Lamar; three brothers, Dick (Jackie) Jaggars, Claremore, Ronnie Jaggars, Oklahoma City, and Mike Jaggars, Muskogee, Oklahoma; a sister, Joyce (Larry) Dalland, Oklahoma City; twelve grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; numerous nephews and nieces; and a large extended family.
Tom proudly entered the U.S. Marine Corp February 21, 1968 and served in Quan Tre, Vietnam. His exposure to Agent Orange while in Vietnam left him with many health challenges throughout the rest of his life. Completing his tour of duty, Tommy came to Lamar to work with his brother, Dick, at Ford Tractor Supply as well as hiring out to do farm work. Working in construction for many years, he was a natural at heavy equipment operating and roofing. After his health forced him to semi-retire, Tommy worked at Truman Healthcare Center where he was a favorite of both staff and residents. He loved to fish, hunt and demonstrate his excellent marksmanship skills at target practice.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, July 9th at Daniel Funeral Home with full military honors.
