John T. Peterson, 88, of Joplin passed away at 10:51 a.m. Friday, June 10th, 2016 at Mercy Hospital of Joplin.
John was born January 21st, 1928 in Jasper County. He was the son of Allen T. Peterson and Myrtle “Dennis” Peterson. John was a veteran of the United States Army, Infantry occupation in Japan. He graduated from the University of Missouri with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Science and was a member of Alpha Gamma Sigma Fraternity. He was decorated a Kentucky Colonel for his work with the Pleasure Valley Babe Ruth Baseball Association, Louisville, KY. He was a Charter Member of elder of Faith Presbyterian Church, Louisville, KY. John was a self-employed Property Developer and Home Builder of Heritage Acres subdivision of Joplin, Missouri. John was a faithful member of the First United Methodist Church of Carthage. He was a member of the choir for many years and attended Sunday school class. He was a former president of Joplin Home Builders Association, enjoyed Barber Shop Chorus, loved to travel and was a super fan of MU Tigers, St. Louis Cardinals baseball and Webb City football.
John was united in marriage to Ernestine Carter September 4th, 1949 in Carthage. They were joined in marriage for 66 years. She survives. Other survivors include two sons; Bob Peterson and Steve Peterson both of Joplin, two daughter Carol Rodgers and Kim Splitter (Anthony) both of Joplin. Seven grandchildren; Jason Peterson, Jeremy Peterson, Holly Peterson, Jacob Rodgers, Erin Rodgers, Blake Splitter and Brandon Splitter. Four great grandchildren; Connor Peterson, Trevor Peterson, Aubrey Peterson and Brinley Peterson. John was preceded in death by four brothers Willis Peterson, Rolleigh Peterson, Bob Peterson and Bill Peterson and one sister Betty Matheson.
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Friday June 17th, 2016 at the First United Methodist Church of Carthage. Visitation will be 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday June 16, 2016 at the Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage. Burial will be in Fasken Cemetery. Contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church in care of the Ulmer Funeral Home. Online condolences may be sent a www.ulmerfh.com.
