Carol Groene

Mrs. Carol Ann (Tripp) Groene, 83, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, January 10. She was born in New York City, NY on March 19, 1937, as an only child to the late Kenneth Tripp and Audrey (Mace) Tripp.

Carol was married to the late Donald E. Groene in 1956. Together, they enjoyed traveling around the Southwest collecting Native American jewelry, pottery and Kachina dolls. In their later years, they also enjoyed sailing on several cruises until Don’s passing in 1998.

Due to her father’s job, Carol spent her childhood moving all over the US until finally settling in the San Diego area in the early 1950’s. She quickly fell in love with horses. She was an active member of the Bridlewise Riding Club of San Diego and enjoyed competing in horse shows. She graduated from Grossmont High School in 1955.

After one year of studying engineering at San Diego State, she met and married the love of her life. She was a stay home mom for 15 years and then went on to work in product manufacturing. She volunteered as a mounted patrol in the Southern California mountains, in a lab at Mercy Hospital, First Tuesday Luncheon, and as group treasurer at First Presbyterian Church in Joplin, MO.

Carol loved attending her grandchildren’s activities and could always be found in the stands at home games. Her favorite pastime was riding and taking care of her horse, Dream, well into her 70’s. Carol’s dedicated care and appreciation of Native American art could be observed in her beautiful displays at home and in the brilliant, vibrant necklaces she often wore outside the home.

Carol is survived by her two daughters, Lynn (Groene) Millar and husband Frank of La Mesa, CA and Gail (Groene) Rice of Joplin, MO, by six grandchildren, Christopher Rice and wife Jamie of Rancho Cucamonga, CA, Michael Rice of Manhattan, NY, Steven Rice and wife Rachel of Joplin, MO, Samantha Halcott, of Carl Junction, MO, David Rice and wife Phoenix of Joplin, MO and by six great-grandchildren, Samuel Rice, Graycyn Millar, Emma Rice, Thea Rice, Ava Rice, and Andrew Rice.

In dearly cherished memory of Carol Ann Groene, until we are reunited in Christ, Jesus:

“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelation 21:4 NIV
