Jerry Hylton

Jerry Dean Hylton, age 78, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away January 19, 2021, at Freeman Hospital, Joplin.

Jerry was born on January 24, 1942 in Joplin, Missouri to the late William Franklin Hylton and Grace Mae (Lewis) Hylton. 

 Jerry had lived in the Joplin area all his life and proudly served his country in the United States Army. He worked in the manufacturing industry during his career, spending 20 years with Fleming Foods, and 10 years at FAG Bearings before retiring.








Jerry had a passion for singing from a very young age. Country and western was his favorite especially songs by Red Foley. He is fondly remembered for the songs he would sing to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Jerry could be a little ornery at times, but that made him special to those he loved. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and the outdoors. Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Jerry married Virginia Mae “Jenny” Pequignot on August 14, 1963, in Joplin, Missouri at her parents’ home. Together they shared 57 years, before his passing. She survives at the home.

In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by an infant daughter, sister, Freda Simon and sister-in-law, Wanda Hylton.

Additional survivors include children, Jerry Wayne Hylton and wife, Bobbi, Melissa Hylton, Brittany Hylton; special nephew Mike Kelso and wife, Mellisa; brother, Garry Hylton; sisters, Carmelita Yokley, Shirley Cummins; grandchildren, Josh Hylton and wife, Makayla, Kim Allen and husband, Darren, Dalton Hylton; great grandchildren, Hadley Hylton, Landry Hylton, Aiden Allen, Reagan Allen, Gracie Allen; as well as a host of extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday at Parker Mortuary with Pastor Mike Kelso officiating. Interment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery, Joplin. The family will receive friends for visitation from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Parker Mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
