Virginia Brown

Virginia L. Brown, age 90, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday January 26, 2021, at her home, following an illness.

Virginia was born on October 6, 1930 in Joplin the daughter of the late Nolan and Sylvia (Wiggins) Brown. She has been a lifetime area resident. She graduated from Joplin High School a member of the ‘class of 1948’. 

She married Leon Brown on April 16, 1950 in Joplin and they were blessed with three children. She worked as a secretary for many years for the Joplin School District. 








Following retirement, she worked as a tour director for Reptile World. Through the years she also was the bookkeeper for Brown Construction. She was a longtime member of Mt. Hope Church of Christ where she was an active member of the M&M Group. She enjoyed reading, especially her Bible. She loved knitting, gardening, canning, and baking. Most of all she loved spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband Leon Brown on December 4, 1996; her great-grandson, Riley McCoy; and two brothers, Bill, and Gerald Brown.

Virginia is survived by her son, Marty Brown and wife Cheryl, Diamond, MO; two daughters, Debbie McCoy and husband Ron, Joplin, and Leesa Baldwin, Lawrenceburg, IN; nine grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to express their gratitude to Avalon Hospice for the care of Virginia over the past year.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Reverend Joe Morris will officiate. Burial will be in Stone Cemetery. The pallbearers will be her grandchildren.

The family will receive friends 12-1:00 p.m. Saturday at Mason-Woodard prior to the service. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be given to the Joplin Humane Society or Avalon Hospice in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
