(From Derfelt Funeral Home)Jerry Andrew Brown, age 83, passed away at 7:43 pm, Saturday, January 23, 2021 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness.
Jerry was born November 6, 1937 in Joplin. His parents were Edward and Ena (Shetley) Brown. He had lived in the Iron Gates community 60 years, moving from Galena, KS.
He graduated from Galena High School in 1955. He retired from E A Martin Machinery, Joplin after 43 years of service.
Jerry attended Park Plaza Christina Church, Joplin. He was a member of the Joplin Rifle and Pistol Club. He was a volunteer with the Carl Junction (MO) Fire Dept for several years. He had also served as Mayor of the Iron Gates Village for 11 years.
Jerry was married to Irene Babb on August 5, 1961 in Stark City, MO. She survives.
Additional survivors include one son, Aaron Brown (wife, Sam), Joplin, MO; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Chunke (husband, Michael)’ 4 step-grandchildren, Sarah Hensley, Brent Hensley, Kaleb Hensley, and Noah Hensley; one great-grandson, Diesel Chunke; 9 step great-grandchildren; and a very special nephew, Christopher Babb.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, January 27, 2021 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS. B. A. Austin will officiate. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Galena, KS.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2:00 pm, Wed. January 27, 2021 at the funeral home.
