Mike Wylie

Micheal T. Wylie “Mike” was born in Neosho, Missouri to Loyde Wylie and Ethel Joan Forbes Wylie on March 4, 1949.

Mike was a graduate of Neosho High School and he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force shortly after graduation. He was honorably discharged after service in Hawaii with brief deployments to Southeast Asia, including Viet Nam, Cambodia and Laos.

Mike returned home to Neosho after his discharge from the Air Force and enrolled in college. Mike attended and graduated from Missouri Southern State College with a Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a focus in special education. 








Following graduation from college, Mike was hired to work in Sedalia, Missouri as Principal of the State School. Subsequently he returned to Neosho and continued to teach as a substitute teacher in the area schools while serving on the Neosho Fire Department. His last teaching assignment was at West Central Elementary School in Joplin, Missouri where he lived for many years until he and his wife retired. They returned to a small farm in Neosho where he spent his last years spending time with family and friends, gardening, fishing and taking care of all their furry family of dogs, cats and horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Gilda, a grandson Zachary Wylie and a nephew Zachary Nageotte.

In addition to his wife, Marilyn, he is survived by two sisters, Sherre Wilson and husband Gary of Eagle Rock, MO and Jodi Nageotte and husband Lonnie of Wheaton, MO and their children Zeb Naggeotte and Carrie Jo Nageotte Louderback. He is also survived by 3 sons, Byron Wylie of Neosho, MO, Patrick Wylie and wife Layla, and Tyler Wylie and wife Heather, all of of Granby, MO and Step-children Terri Stewart of Lakeland, Florida, Shari Smith and husband Brent, Kayja Stanley and husband Jeremy, and Arin Leach all of Joplin, Missouri. Mike and Marilyn were also blessed with 15 grandchildren, and 11 great-grandchildren who also survive with two more great-grandchildren on the way.

Mike will be missed by his family, friends, and his church family at Unity of Joplin.

A Celebration of Life in Mike’s honor is planned for March 4, 2021 at Unity Church of Joplin to begin at 6:00pm. In lieu of plant and flower arrangements, please consider donating to Faithful Friends Animal Advocates of Neosho, MO, (see information below) a no kill animal shelter for both dogs and cats, in Mike’s name. He was a dedicated animal lover and would appreciate your kindness for his furry friends.
