Randy Burks

Randall Dale Burks, age 60, passed away at 1:12 pm, Friday, January 22, 2021 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness.

Randy was born February 2, 1960 in Baxter Springs. His parents were Floyd and Phyllis (Douglas) Burks. He was a lifetime resident of Baxter.

He graduated in 1978 from Baxter High School. He had worked at Don’s Machine in Joplin, as Animal Control Officer for the City of Baxter Springs, Sanitation Supervisor at Ozark Salad CO, Baxter Springs, and as an Independent Distributor for Flowers Baking. He had been disabled since 2011.








He was a member of Grace Baptist Church, Baxter Springs. He was a former Baxter Springs Reserve Officer. He also was a Team Captain for the neighborhood watch program. Randy was a former Baxter Springs girls softball coach.

He was a diehard KC Chief’s fan, collecting memorabilia and cheering for his team for decades. He enjoyed woodworking, making intricate musical dulcimers. He could build anything, from simple beautiful boxes to large beds and tables.

Randy loved the outdoors and spoiling his dogs and grandchildren. His family meant everything to him and spending time with the love of his life for over 40 years, Teresa, gave him the most happiness.

Randy was married to Teresa Lynn Greninger on August 28, 1981 in Joplin, MO. She survives.

Additional survivors include three daughters, Tracy Doubledee (Jay), Edmond, OK, Tonya Burks -Andrews, and Renee’ Burks (Brent), both of Baxter Springs; 9 grandchildren, Wyatt, Trinity, Kadin, Xander, Skyy, Jeanie, Elijah, Journey, and Rozlynn; three bonus grandchildren; nieces and nephews, and host of family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Debbie Burks, and one brother, Rick Burks.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, KS. Pastor Russell Presson will officiate. Those attending are encouraged to wear KC Chiefs or red clothing. Burial will be in Lowell Cemetery, Lowell, KS.

The family will receive friends from 6:00- 7:00 pm, Monday, January 25, 2021 at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
