Marietta Shea

Marietta Sarah Shea, 96, of Parsons, died at 7:30 p.m., Sunday, January 17, 2021, at Labette Health.

She was born January 2, 1925, at Dennis, to Leo and Bertha (Reed) Bisnett. She grew up in the Parsons area and graduated from Parsons High School. 

Shortly after graduation she moved to Washington D.C. and worked two years at the Pentagon. She returned to Parsons and was employed at the Hallmark Card Co. plant and at the Census Bureau. From 1961 to 1986 she worked at the Parsons State Hospital and Training Center as a mental health technician.

On April 27, 1946 she and Robert J. Shea were married in Parsons. He preceded her in death on March 21, 1990.








Marietta was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and of the Altar Society. She enjoyed quilting, bingo, cards and other games. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and volunteering at St. Vincent de Paul store.

Survivors are her daughters, Bobbie Shea, Gail Searles and Lisa Amadi, all of Parsons, Patricia Bryan of Fayetteville, AR and Margaret Kennedy and her husband Wayne of Joplin; ten grandchildren, Travis Searles of Butler, MO, Tisha Lemmons of Parsons, Jonathan Bryan and Megan Phipps, both of Fayetteville, AR, Michael Kennedy of Joplin, MO, Paul Kennedy of Carthage, MO, Andrew Griggs of Parsons, Mandi Griggs of Centerton, AR, Ayodele Amadi of Taipei, Taiwan and Chinyere Amadi of Tainan, Taiwan. Also surviving are eighteen great-grandchildren and a soon to be born great-great granddaughter.
Preceding her in death was her husband, a daughter, Mary Beth Griggs, three sons-in-law, Emmanuel Amadi, Paul Ryan and Richard Searles, a granddaughter, Terri Kay Searles, a sister Rosemary Keeling and a sister-in-law, Ellen Baker.

The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2021 at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery Patio, with Rev. Curtis Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
The rosary will be prayed Friday at 6:30 p.m., and the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Carson-Wall Funeral Home.
