Della Frazier

On October 2, 2023, Della Ruth Frazier, 81, of Joplin, MO, passed away after a brief illness. She is survived by her husband Jim, her sons Dr. Kent (Kelli) and Kevin (Janet), her six grandchildren Brittni (Anthony) Westfield, Hannah, Katlyn, Karli, Carson and Cody, great granddaughter Bria Westfield, her sister Zelda (Clint) McColm and nephews Dr. Earl (Dr. Shelly) McColm and Chad McColm.

Della was born in Buffalo, KS on August 27, 1942 to the late Archie and Edythe Spillman. When she was four years old, they moved to McCune, KS and about a year later, she became a big sister to Zelda Marie. 








Della attended McCune Elementary School and in the 1st grade, she met the love of her life, Jim “Jimmy” Frazier. While attending school, her interests included playing the piano, baton twirling for the band and riding shotgun in Jimmy’s 1955 Chevy convertible. She graduated from McCune High School in 1960.

On August 17, 1963, Della and Jim were married in McCune, KS and they recently celebrated their 60th anniversary. In 1971, they moved to Joplin, MO when Jim accepted a job at MSSU. She worked in banking for several years before working as a secretary at Joplin R8 Schools. Della loved cooking, entertaining, playing piano, travelling, and spending time with friends and family. She enjoyed planning gatherings and had an exceptional eye for details. She was also known to tell great stories and will be remembered by many for her ability to make people laugh.

Della was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for 62 years. She was initiated into the McCune Chapter 291 in 1961 and in 1982, she became affiliated with Temple Chapter 95 in Joplin, MO. She served as District Deputy Grand Matron in 2011 and Grand Organist in 2012-13. She also received a Grand Representative appointment to West Virginia 2021-2023.








Della cherished her family and proudly attended any event that involved her loved ones. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.

Services will be held at Park Plaza Christian Church in Joplin, MO on Saturday, October 21, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. Family will receive friends following the service at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association in care of the mortuary.
