Doris Jean Butterworth, 86 of Riverton, KS passed from this life on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Quaker Hill Skilled Nursing Facility.
Doris was born November 19, 1929 in Picher, OK to the union of James Wallace and Edna Luella (Hawes) Abbott. After graduating from Baxter Springs High School, Doris was united in marriage to Elmer W. Butterworth on February 14, 1950 in Baxter Springs, KS.
Doris spent most of her life as a homemaker caring for her children and family. After the kids were grown she worked two different times at the American Bank for 15 years. She then worked for the Baptist Area Office retiring in 1994. She was a member of the Fellowship Baptist Church and always enjoyed preparing a big Sunday dinner for the family. She enjoyed sewing, reading and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Doris is preceded in death by her parents and husband, Elmer Butterworth.
Doris is survived by one son, Mark Butterworth of Ottawa, KS; three daughters, Celia Hefner and husband Gib of Baxter Springs, KS, Cathy Mock and husband Doug of Joplin, Mo, and Carol Graham and husband Shaun of Phoenix, AZ; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Saturday, June 4, 2016 at the Fellowship Baptist. Pastor Shane Dotson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Baxter Springs Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday, June 3, 2016 from 6:00-7:00 PM, at Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Online condolences may be expressed at www.derfeltfuneralhomes.com.
