Maxine Palmer

Myrtle “Maxine” (Tillock) Palmer was born on June 2, 1920 in Sarcoxie, Missouri and died on May 28, 2016 at the age of 95. Maxine lived a great life, all of which was spent in Sarcoxie, Missouri. Maxine attended Ruder Business College in Carthage, Missouri and had a successful career working for Jasper County Title and Guarantee Company, First National Bank of Sarcoxie, Gilbert Wild & Son Peony Farms and Sarcoxie School District. Maxine loved to bake and was known for her delicious cherry pies. She also enjoyed keeping a vegetable and fruit garden in her backyard surrounded by beautiful potted flowers. One of her greatest contributions in life was helping others in need. Maxine’s personal memoirs mention her support of many teenagers at one of her employers, Sarcoxie High School, as well as caring for her family members during their time of need, including her mother Pearl and brother Clarence.

Maxine is preceded in death by her husband Ora Palmer, a veteran of the Army, who Maxine married on December 7, 1945. Maxine is also preceded in death by her parents, August Tillock and Polly Ann “Pearl” Briner, her brothers Clarence, Leo, Russell, Lloyd and William. Maxine is survived by sibling, Betty Jean Wagner, many nieces and nephews including Steve Wagner and Louella Phipps, sister-in-law’s, and friends including her high school classmate and special friend, Vance Meares.

Funeral services are 1:00 p.m. Saturday, June 4, 2016 at Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home, Sarcoxie, Missouri with Chris Wagner officiating. Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. prior to the service. Burial to follow in the Sarcoxie Cemetery. Donations can be made to the Sarcoxie Cemetery or Hospice Compassus and Palliative Care, Joplin, Missouri.
