(From Parker Mortuary)Judith Cordelia Chesney, age 92, Joplin, passed away on Friday, December 25, 2020 at Mercy-Joplin Hospital.
Judy was born June 1, 1928 in Glen Dean, Kentucky, daughter of the late Joe David Moorman and Cecil Dix Moorman. She grew up on the family farm in Breckenridge County, Kentucky, and graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1946.
She married George Wayne Chesney on June 17, 1950. George’s medical education and military service moved the family to St. Louis, MO, Alexandria, LA, San Antonio, TX, and Oklahoma City, OK.
After George completed his residency the young family settled in Joplin. Judy enjoyed being a part of the Jasper County Medical Society Auxiliary and the Joplin Woman’s Club. She also served as the fundraising chair for the March of Dimes and the American Heart Association. Judy enjoyed cooking, bowling and gardening. In her later years she was the office manager for her son Dr. John Chesney, until her retirement 1 year ago.
In addition to her parents, Judy was preceded in death by brothers, Samuel Henry Moorman and Joe Edison Moorman; sisters, Sue Alice Spelger, and Dorothy Dix Dean.
Survived by her husband of 70 years, George; sons, Robert David Chesney of Joplin and John Wayne Chesney, M.D. and wife Marcia, of Joplin; grandsons, Alexander Joseph Chesney and wife Whitley of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Andrew David Chesney of Joplin; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, in care of the mortuary.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
