Charles Marshall

Charles Edwin Marshall, age 82, of Purdy, MO, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Monday morning, December 22, 2014, while at Cox South Medical Center in Springfield, MO.

Charles was born on September 12, 1932 in Purdy, the only son of the late Jesse S. and Effie E. (Smith) Marshall. Charles graduated from Purdy High School with the class of 1950. As a young man, Charles was a great baseball player. He was spotted and drew interest from the St. Louis Browns as a Pitcher. He decided to serve his country instead, enlisting in the United States Air Force. Charles was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base, where he was Crew Chief. His military experience led him to Rocketdyne in Neosho, where he tested jet engines that were used in the Saturn Rocket Program. For many years, Charles worked for RM Industries as a Salesman, retiring in 1997. He was also a hunting and fishing guide and had a close affiliation with the Catch-A-Dream Foundation. He thoroughly enjoyed singing gospel music and was a longtime member of Gunter Methodist Church.

On September 19, 1959, in Anderson, MO, Charles and Alecia Baldwin were united in marriage. Charles is survived by his wife of fifty-five years, Alecia, of the home; his son, Jay Marshall, and wife Cathy, of Purdy; two daughters; , Susan Jackson, and husband Jim, of Neosho, MO and Jan Mahurin, and husband Tim, of Purdy; five grandchildren, Heather Stafford, Amanda Owenby, Chelsea Marshall, Tanner Marshall and Audra Mahurin; two very special great-granddaughters, Lauren and Charlotte Stafford; one nephew, Gary McNeill, and wife Dianne; and three great-nephews. Charles was preceded in death by one son at birth, Jeffrey S. Marshall; and his sister and brother-in-law, Jessalyn and Thomas McNeill.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Buchanan Funeral Home. Reverend Jerry Nickle and Reverend Russ Neill will be officiating. Interment will be in the Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Friday at the funeral home. In memory of Charles, memorial contributions can be made to the Catch-A-Dream Foundation in care of the funeral home. Arrangements have been entrusted to Buchanan Funeral Home, Monett, MO.
