James "Jim" Michel, Sr., 77 of Fort Smith, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2014. Jim was born on September 28, 1937 to Carl and Mary Michel in Emporia Kansas.Jim was one of 8 children and spoke often of how his momma taught them hard work and the importance of family. Jim took to heart those lessons; he had a great desire for education as well as a deep love for his family. He had many accomplishments in his life, Fire chief, EMT, business managementand mechanic, but he said his greatest accomplishment was his family and he cherished them more than anything. Jim was a foster parent and a minister and loved to sing and spread his joy of God through music. Jim will be missed and all though he is no longer here, he lives on through his children, grandchildren and every person that had the pleasure of knowing him. He is preceded in death by his wife, Lily Michel.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M. Friday, December 12, 2014 at Fentress Mortuary Chapel with burial to follow at New Hope Cemetery in Spiro, OK. Arrangements are under the direction of Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith.
He is survived by a daughter, Debbie Fort and her husband Jim, of Webb City, MO; two foster daughters, Cindy Currie of Fort Smith and Kathy Nighswonger and her husband Bobby, of Oklahoma City; three sons, James Leon Michel, II and his wife Tina, John Andrew Michel and his wife Tammy, and Michael Wayne Michel, all of Fort Smith; three sisters, Alice Martin of Northwest AR, Eleanor Sanchez of California and Laura Mort of Tulsa, OK; seventeen grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be James Michel II, James Michel III, Christopher Michel, Brandon Michel, Tim King and Jennifer Parks.
Family will greet friends from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
