Juanita Lorraine (Nita) Girerd Wheeler, age 85, formerly of Dumas, AR, passed away at 1:45 p.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at the Communities of Wildwood Ranch in Joplin, MO.
Born June 19, 1929 in Dewitt, AR, she was the daughter of the late Leon Adolph Girerd and Roberta Mae Rowland Girerd and lived in Dumas most of her lifetime. A homemaker, she was a volunteer for Jodie Partridge Center and was a member of First United Methodist Church, both of Dumas.
In addition to her parents, Nita was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Arnold D. Wheeler; a son, Terry Wheeler; and a brother, Charles Girerd.
Survivors include two sons, Mike Wheeler of Joplin, Chuck Wheeler and wife Cindy of Carl Junction, MO; nine grandchildren, Shane Wheeler of Tulsa, OK, Heath Wheeler of Decatur, AL, Amber Girouard of Carl Junction, Josh Wheeler of Muskogee, OK, Brett Wheeler of Carl Junction, Megan Martin of Joplin, Ashley Wheeler of Kansas City, MO, Andrew Wheeler of Chattanooga, TN and Jimmy Wheeler of Wagoner, OK; 12 great-grandchildren, Kayleigh, Thatcher, Madison, Hannah, Wyatt, Sydney, Kerstin, C.J., Hailey, Taylor, Sierra and Jonathon; and a niece, Renée Bisswanger of Ethel, AR.
Memorial services will be held Monday, December 15th at 1:00 p.m., after which, the family will receive friends. Private interment will be in Lone Tree Cemetery in Stuttgart, AR.
Memorial contributions may be made to Jodie Partridge Center, National Kidney Foundation or Arkansas Children’s Hospital Foundation.
