Richard “Dick” Bartz, age 90 of Joplin, Mo. passed away early Tuesday, December 2, 2014 at the Communities of Wildwood following an illness.
Dick was born on February 14, 1924 in Java Village, N.Y. the son of William and Loretta (Dellinger) Bartz. He has been an area resident since 1980, moving to Joplin from Stella, Mo. Dick was a farmer, raising crops and dairy cows, attended mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church and was a member of the Knights of Columbus in Neosho, Mo. Richard also worked at Cardwell Memorial Hospital in Stella for 7 years and Oak Hill Hospital for 12 years as a shipping and receiving clerk.
He married Eleanor Riter on May 30, 1956 in Sheldon, N.Y., she survives. Additional survivors include one son; Gary Bartz and his wife Elizabeth of Joplin, two daughters; Patty McKay and her husband Steve of Kansas City, Mo., Sharon Bartz of Joplin, six grandchildren, Navarre, Megan, Grace, Lydia, Ian, Joseph, and three great-grandchildren, Patrick, Andrew and Leona. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, William Bartz, Jr., and three sisters, Ann Bartz, Ursula Youngers and Margaret Suttle.
A mass of Christian burial has been scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 6, 2014, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Webb City, Mo. Reverend Rahab Isidor, will officiate. A rosary service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at Mason-Woodard with a visitation to follow. Burial will be in St. Bridgets Cemetery in Scammon, Ks. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions to be made to Sacred Heart Catholic Church in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Chapel.
