Clyde Smith

Clyde Smith, 93, Carthage, Mo., passed away Wednesday, December 03, 2014, after a full life. 

Clyde was born on December 13, 1920, in Berryville, Arkansas to the late Garland and Toy (who passed away shortly after Clyde’s birth) and then raised by Maude and Garland Smith. Clyde married Wilma Williams, January 27, 1939. In 1944 Clyde and Wilma moved to Lancaster, California. There Clyde and Wilma earned enough money to move back and buy a farm in 1951. This farm was at Fidelity, Missouri where they lived the rest of their lives. Clyde was never a stranger to work, his days were busy working at Carthage Marble, the evenings and weekends were spent caring for the cattle, chicken, and turkeys. A few of Clyde’s passions in life were listening to the every Cardinal game on the back porch and his late night raccoon hunts with many family and friends. Clyde was an avid gardener winning many blue ribbons from Old Settlers Picnic. 

Waiting for him in God’s Kingdom is his wife Wilma. Also preceding him in death were his three brothers, Burt, Charlie, Wade and one sister Ethel Briscoe. Survivors include two sons, Gerald and his wife, Joyce, Diamond, Missouri, Darrel and his wife, Sheri, Carthage. One daughter Linda and her husband Robert Boyd, also Carthage. Other survivors include four grandchildren, Spencer Boyd and his wife Sarah, of Carthage, Mo., Casey Boyd and his wife Jennifer of Kansas City, Doug Smith and Kim Oliver of Joplin, Mo., Jill Barlow, Springfield, Mo., eight great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren. 

Services will be Saturday, 11:00, December 6 at Grace Point Church. Visitation will be prior to services from 10-11. Burial will follow at the Fidelity Cemetery. The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful caregivers of St. Lukes, Joplin Mercy, Dr. Smart, and as dad called him, “his happy Dr. De Hoyos”.
