Dorothy L. Abeln Smith, age 91 of Monett, MO, passed away Friday, December 26, 2014 at Lacoba Homes in Monett.
Born July 28, 1923 in Munjor, KS, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Matilda Rupp Leiker. She moved to the Pierce City and Monett areas in 1972. Dorothy had worked as a medical transcriptionist and as a secretary-bookkeeper for several companies. She was a Roman Catholic.
On November 8, 1944, she married Leonard L. Abeln at Salisbury, MO. He preceded her in death January 1, 1983. She was also preceded by seven siblings and one granddaughter, Deborah Anne Conway.
Survivors include a daughter, Martha L. Abeln Wilkins of Neosho; a son, Robert E. Abeln and wife Jeannie of Monett; two sisters, Cecelia Schmidt of Hays, KS, Antoinette Haddock of Casper, WY; six grandchildren, Sandra Kay Conway Sava, Helen Kristine Conway Padilla, Rebecca Marie Abeln, Kathryn Diane Abeln and Laura Elizabeth Abeln Deering, along with Genevieve Shelton and 13 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Monday at St. Francis Cemetery in Munjor, KS with Fr. John Schmeidler officiating under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin. Online condolences may be left atwww.parkermortuary.com .
