Richard Andrew White, age 56, passed away December 27th following a long battle with Multiple Sclerosis.
Richard is survived by his mother, Mary Lou White, of Kent. He is also survived by his son Alec White of Missouri, his sister Beverly Holden of Kent, and his brother Steve (Cindy) White of Columbus, as well as several nieces and nephews. Richard was preceded in death by his father Glendale White of Kent.
Richard graduated from Kent Roosevelt High School in 1976. He graduated from Kent State University with a degree in broadcast journalism. Rich went on to enjoy a long career in broadcasting. He began his career as a reporter at KHBS-TV in Fort Smith, Arkansas, and from there he joined KODE-TV in Joplin, Missouri, as main anchor. Then he moved west to KOB-TV in Albuquerque, New Mexico as a reporter and weekend anchor. His next position brought him closer to home as Akron bureau chief and weekend anchor for WEWS-TV in Cleveland, Ohio. He then returned to KODE-TV as the main anchor.
Highlights of Richard's career include conducting interviews with Bill Clinton, Dan Quayle, and Muhammed Ali. Richard also helped emcee the Jerry Lewis Telethon while in Missouri.
Richard was a loving and loyal son. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and spending time with family and friends. Richard will be missed by many.
His family wishes to thank the staff of Harbor Lights Hospice Care for their attentive and supportive care during Richard's battle with illness.
