Robert E. Tatum, 80, Carthage, passed away Saturday, December 27, 2014 at the Carthage Health & Rehab Center. Robert Eugene Tatum was born December 1, 1934 in Jasper County, MO; a son of the late Carl Tatum and Rachael Cooper Tatum. He married Barbara Cearnal on April 12, 1925 in Carthage; she survives. Mr. Tatum was a maintenance worker for McCune-Brooks Hospital and Missouri Southern State College before in retirement in 1989.
Additional survivors include four daughters; Becca Cornell, Joplin, Sonya Mix, Joplin, Lynn Tatum, Carthage and Jennifer (Mark) Comer, Joplin; two sons, Jeff Tatum, Sarcoxie and Michael (Michelle) Tatum, Carterville; a sister, Barbara (Stanley) Eden, Neosho; a brother, Richard Tatum, Carthage; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Bill and Kenny Tatum.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 – 7:00 PM, Thursday, January 1 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM, Friday, January 2 in the Knell Mortuary Chapel. Rev. James Lee will officiate. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to the American Heart Association in care of Knell Mortuary, 308 W. Chestnut, Carthage, MO, 64836.
