Donald Lee (Scooter) Boyd, age 68, of Purcell, Mo., passed away on Tuesday December 23, 2014, at his home, surrounded by his family.
Donald was born on September 1, 1946 in Joplin, the son of the late Ernest and Ruth (Campbell) Boyd. He has been a lifetime area resident. He served in the United States Navy and was a veteran of the Viet Nam War. He worked for Cable Com, and later was a self-employed electronics repairman. He was a past member of the VFW Webb City Post #7630 and the American Legion. He was the founder of the Community Alert Patrol, a group of storm spotters and community volunteers.
He married Wendy Fry on November 1, 1996, and she survives. Additional survivors include one son, Michael Boyd and wife Donna, Joplin; three daughters, Michele Boyd, Joplin, Daphne Dust and husband John, Webb City, Mo., Terra Boyd, Joplin; two step-sons, Robert Bowers, Joplin, and William Bowers and wife Holly, Joplin; and one step-daughter, Jennifer Hudson and husband Jeremy, Webb City, Mo., 9 grandchildren, with one on the way, and 2 great-grandchildren with one on the way. He was preceded in death by one brother, William Boyd., and 2 grandchildren. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 6-7 p.m. Monday at Hedge-Lewis Funeral Home.
