Ed Leavitt

Edward ‘Ed’ L.D. Leavitt, 70, Neosho, died December 12, 2014 at Freeman West Hospital in Joplin, following a sudden illness. 

Ed was born May 19, 1944 in Stella, Missouri, the son of Newell and Ila Faye (Davis) Leavitt. He graduated from Granby High School Class of 1963 and had worked at Yellow Freight from 1966 until 2002 as office manager and was a member of the Teamsters Union. He retired from Yellow Freight and then went to work at Wal-Mart in Sioux Falls and moved to Neosho and worked at the Neosho Wal-Mart for a total of ten years working for Wal-Mart. He currently worked as an assistant funeral director at Clark Funeral Homes, where he had worked since July, 2013. Ed was a longtime member of the Gideon’s International; he was serving as President of the Neosho Laymen’s League for the 2014 program and was a member and Deacon of Calvary Baptist Church of Neosho, where he was instrumental in the Teddy Bear Ministry to Freeman Neosho Hospital. 

Ed married Sharon Kaye Long on November 24, 1964 in Rocky Comfort and she survives. Also surviving are two children, Rick Leavitt of Phoenix, AZ and Sherrie Heider and husband, Don of Overland Park, KS; two grandsons, Joe Heider and Mike Heider and a sister, Virgie Harrison of Augusta, Kansas and numerous nieces and nephews.
