(From Parker Mortuary)
Harold Cox, age 58, Joplin, passed away at Mercy Medical Center in Joplin on Sunday, November 30, 2014, surrounded by members of his loving family, and church congregation. We are forever grateful for the individuals at Mercy Medical Center whom were so kind and compassionate during the last few days of his life.
Harold was born on July 7, 1956 in Grand Bay, Alabama to Ronald and Helon Cox. He moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri, and completed high school there. He then was accepted to the University of Missouri Kansas City School of Pharmacy where he received his degree.
Although his formal career included both inpatient and outpatient pharmacy work, Harold had many other life passions. He was involved in Civil War reenactment with the 4th Missouri Confederate infantry. He greatly enjoyed war history, games of all types, and was notably involved in a large paintball venue annually in Oklahoma. Harold, unable to join the armed forces due to juvenile diabetes, was an avid supporter of local troops, especially when they were deployed. Countless military men and women would receive care packages weekly to help boost their morale. In addition to supporting troops, he had a strong heart for those that were less fortunate. Harold took several international trips to Brazil and Mexico where he was able to use his medical knowledge and pharmacy background to help those in need. He was also involved in several prison ministries, providing them emotional support and a role model to those behind bars. He was an active deacon at Wildwood Baptist Church, and volunteered on many different service projects, including mentoring the youth of Joplin.
Harold, having diabetes at a young age, had several medical complications. He however, would prefer not to linger on these, but would use them as a tool to encourage others. People will remember Harold for his youthful spirit, constant humor, and ability to relate to his patients and friends.
He is survived by his father, Ronald Cox, his wife, Patty, and two sons, Eric Cox and wife Tiffany and their daughter Jaidy of Charlotte, North Carolina, Richard Cox and wife Stephanie with their daughters, Kyla and Sara who live in Joplin. His passing was proceeded by his mother, Helon Cox in 2004, and his sister, Lenora in 2002.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 3, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Rev. Joe Morris officiating. Interment will be Wednesday, at 3:30 p.m. in Edwards Cemetery, Powersite, Missouri with family serving as pallbearers.
The family will receive friends at Parker Mortuary on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Missouri Baptist Children's Home.
