Myrtle R. Allen, age 99, of Sherman, Texas, a longtime Webb City resident passed from her earthly home to her heavenly home at 5:47 p.m. Saturday, May 28, 2016 at the Texoma Healthcare Center in Sherman with her family by her side. Myrtle was born January 20, 1917 in Webb City, Mo. From 1963 till 1967 she lived in Branson, Mo. She returned to Webb City and lived there until last month when she moved to Sherman to be close to family. Myrtle was an interior designer and owned Allen Draperies in Webb City. She was a member of the Branson Bible Church while in Branson and when she returned to Webb City was a member of the First Baptist Church of Joplin. She was a godly woman and depended on God for her substance. She used Proverbs 31 as her guide.
Myrtle married James M. Allen July 27, 1935. He preceded her in death on May 8, 1973. She was also preceded in death by four brothers, and one grandson. Survivors include one daughter, Patricia Byler-Morey and husband Jim, Sherman, Tx., two sons, James L. Allen, Virginia Beach, Va., and Jon D. Allen and wife Sharon, Ft. Smith, Ar., one sister, Lou Ella Land, Webb City, eight grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.
Family visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. till 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the Mason-Woodard Mortuary, followed by a graveside service at the Mt. Hope Open Air Chapel in Webb City. Rev. Jarrell Woodhull will officiate. Those honoring Myrtle’s life by serving as pallbearers will be Mike Southard, Lester Southard, Mark Allen, Ronda Allen, and Tom Byler. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Mason-Woodard Mortuary of Joplin, Mo.
