Charlotte Cloud

(From Buchanan Funeral Home)

Charlotte Lee (Frost) Cloud, 93, of Monett, MO, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday morning, January 14, 2021, in the comfort of her home.

Charlotte was born on December 4, 1927 in the family home north of Carthage, MO in the Mt. Moriah Community of Jasper County. She was the first child born to the late Aaron Jackson Frost and Edna R. (Melugin) Frost.

Charlotte graduated from Jasper High School with the class of 1946. She then furthered her education at Joplin Junior College.

In August of 1946, Charlotte began her teaching career in a one-room schoolhouse, having taught children in both Barton and Jasper counties. She was lovingly known by her students as “Miss Charlotte”.

On December 24, 1949 in Carthage, MO, Charlotte and Calvin R Cloud were united in marriage. To this union, four children were born.

Shortly after moving from Carthage to Monett in 1954, Charlotte began in-home childcare at her house on Central Ave. In 1972, Charlotte was licensed by the state of Missouri and began operating Cloud Daycare in her home location on North Eisenhower. She touched the lives of thousands of children in a span of over 60 years. Charlotte retired from daycare service at the “young” age of 87.

Many children may remember some of her sayings such as “Eating your crust makes you beautiful or handsome” or “A clean plate is a happy plate” and know that at Charlotte’s three o’clock is Party Time.

Charlotte had a great love for all children, helping to set them on a path to becoming productive members of their communities. Charlotte’s passion for growing things went beyond children and was evident in the many beautiful flowers she grew in and around her home, especially her beloved zinnias planted each spring in the row at the beginning of her garden. Charlotte’s vegetable garden produced abundantly and Charlotte always shared that bounty with others.

Charlotte was an active member of the First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, where she taught Sunday school and tended the nursery. Charlotte was very involved in her committee work with Care and Support regularly visiting shut-ins to deliver kind words and seasonal treats, as well as sending out a countless number of cards for joys and concerns. She whole heartedly believed that a note in someone’s mailbox can truly brighten a day.

On October 14, 2000, Calvin preceded Charlotte in death. Also preceding her, a brother, Thomas Jackson “T.J.” Frost.

Charlotte will best be remembered for her love of God, family, children, and flowers. She will be greatly missed by many.

Survivors include her children, Dr. Keith Cloud and wife Kandence, of Jackson, TN, Carolyn Cloud, of Carthage, MO, Kevin Cloud, of Monett and Kerri Cloud, of Monett; ten grandchildren, Travis Cloud and wife Amanda, Celina Golden, Angela Butler, Bryan Butler and wife Danielle, Samuel Butler and wife Ashley, Aaron Butler and wife Andrea, Austin Cloud, Kristofer Cloud, Lindsey Vest and Allison Vest; ten great-grandchildren; and one sister, Arletta Frost.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions have been suggested to First Christian Church or Shriners Hospitals for Children in care of the funeral home.
