Gertrude Kelly

Gertrude E. Kelly, age 86, of Joplin, Missouri passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2021, at National Health Care in Joplin, Missouri.

Gertrude was born March 11, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York to the union of the late Edward Dempsey and Elizabeth (Bungarz) Dempsey.

Gertrude was raised in New York and was a homemaker while her children were little. Once the children were old enough to attend school, Gertrude began working for the school district in the lunch room. 








In 1992 Gertrude and her husband, George, moved to the Joplin area. They were devoted members at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Joplin. She was an avid bowler at 4th Street Bowl in Joplin, participating in the Prestige and Friday Senior Leagues. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.

Gertrude married Frank Chimero in 1952, he preceded her in death in 1980. She then married George F. Kelly in Brooklyn, New York in 1985. He preceded her in death on March 27, 2004.

In addition to her husbands, Gertrude was also preceded in death by son, Frank Chimero; daughter-in-law, Diane Chimero; siblings, Betty Larkin, Anna Sparrel and Edward Dempsey.

Survivors include a son, Edward Chimero; brother, John Dempsey; niece, Betty Hedge; daughter-in-law, Diane DeGorter; step-son, Brian Kelly; step-daughter, Judy Hart; grandchildren, Laura Brasier, Frank Chimero, Ed Chimero, Christine Chimero, Brian DeGorter and Chris DeGorter; several great grandchildren and extended family members.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 15, 2021 at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Joplin with Fr. Fergus Monaghan officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday from 9:00 a.m. until service time at the church.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
