John Brafford

John Brafford Jr., age 93, of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, passed away at 4:50 a.m. on Wednesday, January 6, 2021, at his home. He was born June 20, 1927, in Monett, Missouri, the son of John Emerson and Hattie Irene (Sooter) Brafford Sr.

John was a United States Army Veteran serving during World War II and the Korean Conflict and was a lineman for Ozark Electric Company for 33 years.

On April 14, 1951, he married Melrose Edith Sullwold, in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.








John is survived by his wife of 69 years, Melrose; one daughter, Janet Jones of Mt. Vernon; one son, Emery Brafford and his wife, Lisa, of Mt. Vernon; six grandchildren, Sasha Gibson and her husband, Robert, of Aurora, Missouri, Jeremy Jones and his wife, Angela, of Neosho, Missouri, Alissa Stoddard and her husband, Richard, of Port St. Lucie, Florida, Jenna Swihart and her husband, Jason, Emily Chapman and Heath Brafford and his wife, Alyssa, all of Mt. Vernon; 12 great-grandchildren and one niece, Linda Florenzie and her husband, Bob, of Venice, Florida.

John was preceded in death by his parents, John and Hattie and son-in-law, Dwayne Jones.

A private immediate family graveside under the direction of the Fossett-Mosher Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, will be held on Saturday, January 9, 2021, at the Maple Grove Cemetery, southwest of Mt. Vernon.

Due to Covid 19, the family has requested for those attending the services to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.
