Gene Horton

Mr. Eugene Calvin “Gene” Horton, 56, of Joplin, Missouri, departed this life on Sunday, November 7, 2021, at Freeman Hospital West in Joplin, Missouri, after a brief illness.

Gene entered this life on July 3, 1965, in Stella, Missouri, born to the union of the Clarence Calvin and Geneva (Williams) Horton. He was raised and attended school in McDonald County Missouri. For the last forty years, Gene has resided in Joplin, Missouri, where he was employed by Auto Springs Company for that entire time. He enjoyed drag racing, fishing, going to concerts and visiting area casinos.








He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kemberlee Dawn Horton; and two sisters, Hazel Robbins and Wilma Carpenter.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Lauren Horton-Crappel and husband, D.J., of Marrero, Louisiana; two grandchildren, Kenzlee and David Crappel, III; a brother, Duane Horton and wife, Angie, of Joplin; three sisters, Kay Crider of Chetopa, Kansas, Mary Ellis and husband, Kirby, of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Linda Hines of Rocky Company; close friend, Leslie Husemann and husband, Chris, of Carterville, Missouri; as well as a host of other family and friends.

Funeral services will be held graveside on Friday, November 12, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Union Cemetery near Stella, Missouri. Those honoring his life by serving as pallbearers are Guy Wilcox, Jeff Mason, Coy Cloninger, Jr., Preston Choate, Cooper Patterson, D.J. Crappel and Coty DuMond. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home in Webb City, Missouri.
