George Danley

George Earl Danley, age 81, Joplin, passed away at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at his residence after a long illness.

George was born November 13, 1934 in Joplin to the late Earl Danley and Florence Lou Drinkwater Danley and had lived in Joplin most of his life.

He owned and operated Southern Comfort Heat and Air for over 55 years, retiring due to ill health. George was a life member of the Joplin Elk's #501 and the Joplin Shrine Club. He was a longtime and active member of the Grand York Rite of Missouri, including Chapter #91, Royal Arch Masons; Jasper Council #30, Grand Council and Ascension Commandery #39, Grand Commandery.

In his spare time, George enjoyed fishing; golfing and visiting area casinos. He loved his family and will be missed by all that knew him.

George married Barbara Smittle on August 16, 1987 in Joplin. She survives at the home.

Additional survivors include his children, George R. Danley, Sue Cook, Jim Danley, Rick Martin, Randy Martin and his wife, Brenda, Robyn Horner and her husband, David, Ron Martin and his wife, Rowena, Keri Bradley and her husband, Jim; siblings, Donald Danley, Paul and Rose Danley, Bob and Barb Danley, Allen Danley, Shirley and Bob Elliott, Pat Wright, Mary Gilliland, Linda and Tom Cox; 26 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence and Jerry Danley.

Graveside services are planned for Monday at 10:00 a.m. at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. Members of the Joplin Shrine Club, Bob Danley and Jim Bradley will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ricky Danley, Jim Danley, Randy Martin, Tom Cox, David Horner and Jim Bradley.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Joplin Elk's Lodge Christmas Basket Program or to Avalon Hospice, both in care of Parker Mortuary.

The family would like to thank Avalon Hospice for the love and care that they gave George in his final days.

Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
