William C. “Bill” Utley, Sr., age 72 of Joplin, Mo., passed away early Friday, February 10, 2017 at his home following an illness.
Bill was born on December 6, 1944 in Henderson, Ky., the son of William L. and Margie (Richardson) Utley. He proudly served his country as part of the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his service, Bill moved to the area and opened the Joplin Diesel Service, retiring in 2015. He will always be remembered for his infectious laugh and how he seemed to always be there to help others.
He married Shirley Stirling on December 6, 1964, she survives. Additional survivors include one son; William “Bill” Utley, Jr. and wife Beth of Joplin, three daughters; Rita Reding and husband Brent of Joplin, Dawn Heinen and husband Rick of Lamar, Mo., Virginia “Genny” Alderman and husband Harold of Joplin, fifteen grandchildren; Krystyn and husband Michael, Felicia, Tiffini, Brittany, Brooke, Brodie, Michael and wife Whitney, Mandy and husband Jeremy, P.J. and wife Jackie, Emily and husband Chase, Ethan, Scarlett, Adrian, Brandi and Daniel, fourteen great-grandchildren, and over 200 children and grandchildren that Bill and Shirley have fostered and adopted throughout the years.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Mark Heiskell, Minister, will officiate. The family will receive friends at during a time of visitation immediately following the service.
