Orville York

Orville D. York, 87, Carthage, MO, passed away Tuesday evening, February 7, 2017 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, MO. Orville Dean York was born December 3, 1929 in Jasper, MO. He graduated from Golden City High School, Class of 1948. He worked 25 years as manager of Stoker Propane, Jasper, MO, he owned a Sinclair Station in Lamar, MO, and worked 22 years for Arizona Pipeline in California. Orville married Wanda L. Stokes on October 10, 1948 in Las Vegas, NV; she survives. He was an elder at the First Christian Church, Jasper, MO, and current member of Fairview Christian Church, Carthage, MO.

Additional survivors include one daughter, Cindy Hartman (Neysa), Montgomery City, MO; two sons, Tommy D. York (Christine), Carthage, MO, Billy Adkins (Pam), Miami, OK; one sister, Bonnie Fanning, Grove, OK; five brothers, Glenn York (Mary Lou), Webb City, MO, Harold York, Corpus Christi, TX, Wayne York (Mildred), New Castle, IN, Wilbur Dirksen, Yuma, AZ, and Ralph Dirksen (Dorothy), Overland Park, KS ; and numerous grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh York, Faye (Bird-York) Dirksen and Louis Dirksen; one sister, Dorothy Chance; two brothers, Gerald Dirksen and Melvin Dirksen.

Visitation will be held from 2:00-3:00 PM, Saturday, February 18 at Fairview Christian Church, Carthage. Memorial services will follow at 3:00 PM. Ministers Tony Allmoslecher and John Mouton will officiate. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com.
