Our Angel from heaven returned home early Thursday morning, joining a host of family members who have gone before her.
During the short time God loaned Shelley to us, she became our driving force of hope who touched an immeasurable number of lives. Shelley was diagnosed February 11, 2002 with a rare form of synovial cell sarcoma cancer. During the next 15 years she defied the disease and the medical community by fighting with tenacity, steel will and unbreakable resolve. Her upbeat personality, beautiful contagious smile, feisty attitude and determination to beat her disease touched the lives of everyone she encountered on her journey. Shelley faced her situation knowing she was always in God’s hands, and that God would take her through it. Her hope was that if her illness and treatment could help just one other person, it was worth every minute of it. She never lost her free spirit, sense of humor, sarcasm and not much ever got in her way. She was proof that each of us can choose to let the things that life throws at us to make or break us. This is not the end of Shelley’s story, but just another chapter in her legacy because Shelley won the battle and cancer lost. Her faith in God never wavered and she is enjoying her rewards without pain and suffering—and can dance again. Her greatest joy was spending time with her husband, kids, parents and friends, her baby-dog Gizmo.
